Let the EPL begin~
Wednesday, August 31, 2005

Actually the English Premier League season has already begun (4 matches played), but I'll just post this up anyway. Stumbled upon an old picture of the EPL ladies in my desktop, then football came across my mind. Yes, the ever popular EPL which is the crave of most football fan in this country.

When you talk about football season in Malaysia, few things come hand in hand. First, youngsters like me would be jamming the mamak stalls with BIG t.v set that broadcasts live matches, especially in the weekends. I only do that sometimes. Kinda funny cause it makes me (or parents) wonder why would we want to go to those spots and fight for seats with people when you can have the best seat at the comfort of your own home. *LoL* Well, it is understandable for those without cable t.v. But there are still numerous fans flocking to those mamak stalls even though they can watch it at home.

Another thing that is complementary with the EPL season is of course, BETTING. Yes, VERY popular form of betting during this time of the year. Unlike the european style of paying $10 for $1 that you put on your team, in Asia the bookies would set the odds at the handicap of e.g. 0:1, 0:1/2. How do you see this odd? Easy. The zero indicates the superior team (purely based on the match alone) whereas the numbers with any value indicates the handicapped team. If the match has the odd of 0:1, the superior team has to score 2 goals or more so that you can have extra money at the end of the match and go shopping =P If the odds appear as 0:1/2, this means the superior team only needs to get a single goal victory. If it draws, you lose your cash. There are still more variety of odds but I'm just too lazy to elaborate on it. I'm not giving football betting tutorial here.

The football season is also the time when its fans and supporters go around the place and parade the jerseys they're wearing for the love of their favourite club. It is also the best time to see the difference between 'chiplak' jerseys and original ones. You need to feel the texture to feel the difference and some are obviously fake. Original or not, normally jerseys are sold like hot cakes during this period of the year. Why? Cause the clubs change the design of the jerseys every year. Things change a lot and often in the football world. They change the players, coach and managers too. Like the popular saying in Asia goes, "The ball is round". It means you'll never know what's gonna happen next. You'll never know who's gonna get sacked and when.

One more thing that is often related is...Beer. Yup, give me a beer anytime and I'll be gladly enjoying the match immensely. It's not that I can't enjoy watching without the booze, it's just that it taste better when the green field is displayed on your t.v. *LoL* Maybe it's just a guy thing. Heck, not that I care. But you'll be seeing lots of Carlsberg ads or Heineken posters showing football players or the popular clubs, just to get their sales up by influencing those in the mood for soccer. Wicked but smart move in marketing ;-) I really want a beer now~.

Wish I could have an all Asian chicks of this picture, anyway here goes.

this is why people say football is the most beautiful game in sports ^_^"

Built tougher... my A$$~!

Now, for starters, let me list down some of the so-called highlights of the latest national car:

*Toughest production Proton bodyshell ever made
*Capable of 3 stars in EuroNCAP crash test methods
*Drive-by-wire throttle
*4-lamp halogen bulb headlight
*3-year warranty for power window system
*10,000 kms service/oil change interval
*20,000 kms oil filter change interval
*Clutchless manual transmission to be offered in 3 months

The facts above were taken from motor trader website, the automobile magazine that can be found in any bookstores. After reading through the reviews, I just realized that this junk IS the replacement model for Tiara, hence it is known as Tiara Replacement Model (TRM). HOLY SHIT! No wonder it has the word 'ugly' written all over the car. Although this model is not entirely connected to Tiara, it took them 26 months for the development of Savvy and apparently done with Korean consultants, ex-Daewoo engineers it was reported.

Quotes from the Motor Trader magazine:

"From any angle, the Savvy looks bold and individualistic, with an accent on youthfulness. The chunky profile was inspired by the F22 Raptor, the latest fighter jet in the US Air Force, but many feel there is some 'Renault influence' in the rear end. Nevertheless, the front grille is another variation of the 'wau' (kite) which made its debut in the Gen2 and this one looks a lot smarter."

Smarter? I dunno but it looks amusingly dumb with the 'wau' design on it. What the fuck were you guys thinking?!

"The Savvy's cabin is very spacious for a car that has a length of 3710 mm and a wheelbase of 2395 mm, certainly offering more comfortable accommodation that the other rivals in the same body class (Chevy Spark, Kia Picanto, Perodua Kelisa and Inokom Atos). As would be expected from the exterior looks, the headroom inside is excellent and the slope of the rear glass is also not so shallow that sunlight falls on the rear occupants' necks."

Excuse me, the Savvy is much LESS spacious than the models like Kelisa and Atos. Only underage drivers kids and midgets could fit in there without complaints. Maybe the interior designer of the model were daydreaming of the smurfs or the 7 dwarves while drawing out the blue print.

"As had been widely rumoured, the engine for the Savvy is from Renault, just as the one in the Waja 1.8 and it would be the third French engine used by Proton (the first being the engine in the forgettable Tiara). Many would wonder why the 1.3-litre variant of the CAMPRO engine was not used instead and according to TM (Tengku Tan Sri Dr Mahaleel, Proton's CEO), it was because the size was too large for the Savvy's engine bay. He said that it may have been possible to develop a smaller CAMPRO but time was against them so buying the engine from Renault, which makes a business out of selling engines to other carmakers, made more sense."

Yeah, time was against them. So they just went ahead and bought an engine from Renault. *LoL* Proton just don't seem to learn their lesson, don't you think so? Instead of taking time off and rectify their mistakes in the past, they keep doing destructive mistakes when producing cars for the future generation of buyers (IF there's any blind ones). The national car manufacturer just launched the model for the sake of launching new model. Or should I call it "Leap before you think" instead of the rational "think before you leap".

"Basically, both are good cars but the Savvy is a more sports-oriented sort of car and as a result, it is not as comfortable as the Myvi. Now there will be some people who like this but there will also be those who prefer comfort and so they may appreciate the Myvi more. Put in another way, the Savvy is a car I would like to use around town daily but if I were to go from KL to Penang, I reckon the Myvi would be a better choice as it is more spacious and more comfortable."

I agree with this dude on the last part of his statement. But I'd rather be in a Myvi whenever I'm driving, IF these two models were the only ones available in the market of this country.

"But for now, the Savvy gets high marks for an original design, a competent chassis and most important of all, build quality that can be said to be high."

Tiu~! A piece of crap like that can even be given high marks? Hmm, quality that can be said to be high? It was only SAID to be high, not CONFIRMED to be high. Original design?? *LoL*LMAO*ROFL*

After those 'critical shots' I gave, now comes the pictorial eye sore evaluation:

sportiness wrongly defined

unbelievably pathetic

The same problem as that of Gen-2 models. Signal stalks are too far away from steering wheel. Midgets don't have big hands, morons!

the misleading adv. was based on this dumb comic

the moment of truth

I could not bear the sight of a Savvy on the road so I went directly at one and vandalised it. *LoL* Just kidding. Vandalism is wrong, don't do it on public properties. Do it on a Savvy ;-)

Tony Taka Artworks
Tuesday, August 23, 2005

For those who don't know who the heck is Tony Taka, he is an anime artist with a distinctive touch to his works. I have always admired the characters that were drawn by this dude. Be it for a game, calendar, trading cards or posters, I've never been tired of looking at his works :-)

and here's the main reason of my admiration :-P

explicit....

Not really trying to promote his stuff here but just felt like posting em up after looking through my collection of his arts. Still have tonnes of em but I'll post some interesting and eye catching ones ;-) An art that is truely one of a kind.

Quake+Tsunami+Haze=Indons
Sunday, August 14, 2005

Got up at 10 in the morning today to get my ASSignments printed and handed over. After opening the gate and walking to my car, I suddenly notice something different around me. No, there were no naked chicks running around at the playground opposite my house. When I looked at the sky, there it was. The notorious haze the public and the newspapers have been talking about.

At first I thought my eyes were too tired or the specs were covered with fingerprints. No~ It's the haze. Looked so much like I was at Genting Highlands, only difference was it didn't feel cold or windy. And the smell, for the first time after several times Penang got hit with haze, I finally got a sniff at it~ Unpleasant of course, but still not as bad as the smokes from the public bus. So, as I was driving out of the neighbourhood, I drove past a motorist with a mask on. Looks like the haze is starting to re-ignite the phobia that was here years ago.

I still haven't seen masks on sale in stores though. Maybe I should get one? *LoL* Those who know me will know that it's just bullshit when I tell that to people. I think the hair in my nostril can filter the dirt without the mask. "One must trust his own senses", quoted Ah Wei Koh™. Hehe, just felt like imitating Confusious Confucius. Hmm, been picking my nose more often than usual. Must be the haze la, it must be. *LoL*

When I was looking through the newspaper, there were a few points mentioned to the public of what-to-do's and the no-no's. This is usual at times like this. Several points in the list are:-

-Avoid open burning (duh...)
-Cut down outdoor activities (nothing will stop me from going out, NOTHING!)
-Consume more water (only do it when I'm SICK)
-Use air-conditioner (oh sure~)
-Car pooling--> to reduce emissions from vehicles (I'm the driver most of the time =.=')

There are several more that I can't recall. That's not the end. Even schools in seriously affected areas, mainly in K.L have been told to cease its classes and declare holiday due to the fugging fogging condition. How come private colleges and universities don't get this declaration? WHY?!! I am really envying those school kids now while I'm sitting here thinking when should I start revising for my coming exam.

One of the headlines I saw in the papers that caught my attention was "Enough is enough, Indonesia". Also, there was a headline that contained the word "Smog". Hey.. a new word. I just improved my vocabulary la~ Other articles in the press also mentioned things like 'pray for the better things to come', 'hungry ghost festival affected' and health crisis that is related to the haze is ever increasing. Speaking of the 'hungry ghost festival', I wonder if I could get 'saman' if a police officer saw me burning my ASSignments out of frustration. Maybe I could get away with it if I tell the officer that I was burning it for my ancestors to see. *LoL* Hey~ the 'hungry ghost' season is still on, ok! I'm just doing my bit in celebrating the festival.

Ok, coming back to the savaged land, Indonesia. No one will ever forget about the crisis when the tsunami hit the country. Hundreds of thousands of lives gone *snap fingers* just like that. Buildings collapse, many left homeless. I've heard and read people's opinions around me and around the web. Sarcastic/negative/provocative the opinions may be, but I've noticed most of them have something in common. Mostly they are said to be a punishment from the Almighty for their acts of foolishness in the past, sins if you would prefer. I'm not going too deep into political issues since I for one am not interested in it. Some even said that it is mother nature's way of handling over populated nations. I don't really give a damn which country is breeding like pigs since I'm not the one doing the "reshuffling". Others said that these things happened for a reason or reasons that I can't possibly relate logically.

As for the haze, the press reported that there are mass open burnings going on in Indo. What the fark?! Did they start celebrating 'the hungry ghost' festival ahead of us? Is there a mass cremation ceremony going on for the tsunami victims? If the answer appears to be the second one, I can't even imagine how much more 'smog' we will be breathing in. Other questions will then follow, like, how many more sales of masks will be made, how many more people will take haze as the excuse to skip work/tuition classes, how many more articles will be written to curse Indo, how many more patients will jam the clinics, how much longer the students will ask for being in this sudden holiday, how many more accidents will happen due to the fog and the list goes on man I'm telling you!

If I were to have my own newspaper company and occupy the chief editor position, the front page headline could be:

"Fug You Indos!"

"Well done, Indos"

"Jiran busuk"

"Indonesia officially declared hungry ghost festival!"

"Indonesia - puntung rokok gergasi"

"Ke arah transformasi neraka"

"First, the sea. Now, the sky"

"Jerebu dah kembali, topeng cepat beli"

Headlines are © of Ah Wei Koh 2005™ *LoL*

nop, this ain't me.. just my couz'n followin the haze trend

Cajun
Saturday, August 13, 2005

No, I'm not bloggin' about some sort of cheese when I put "Cajun" as the title. No, so don't get me wrong. Not everything I wanna blog about concerns cheese though I am an addict of it. Right now I wanna write about a new friend.

His name is Cajun. He is short, cute, playful and hairy. Silky hair to be precise. He's an Australian silky terrier, according to Changky a.k.a Yong Chang the owner. From what I've observed, he's a nice companion to be with when you have a handful of spare time and you got nothing better to do than just sitting in front of the PC.

Finally, after handed over the last ASSignment for this sem, I'm now in the mood to go out and snap more and more photos. Fuck the haze. That ain't gonna stop me from cam-whoring ^_^ But first thing's first, wanna post some shots of that little guy.

sniffing and 'tasting' my hand..

mystical eyes *_*

now he wants my foot...

showin' off his silky hair..

still flaunting..

going....

going...

gone... exhausted after 'cam-whoring' session ^_^

Feels kinda relaxed from the 'adrenalin rush' while completing the ASSignments after fooling around with this dude. Very friendly and playful dawg, barks at t.v but not at strangers ^_^

Tension.. Torture.. Tiu~!
Wednesday, August 10, 2005

Gotta pass up my assignment in a few days' time, and I'm still not finished. Even though this is not the first time I'm going through this agony, but just felt like spilling it out here just to get my mind away from thinking of ASSignment for a while.

Even thought of filling up this article with just the word 'fuck' but, *slaps forehead* why do I need to do that when I can find someone to talk to and curse face to face, right? LoL.. Then it made me recall back those schooling days when my buddies and I went around the place(school) shouting out foul language like there's no teacher in school.

Heck, I used the vulgar words often, be it in Hokkien or English or malay and felt proud of it like I just earned a Ph.D =) Anyway the cursing habit only started when I entered high school. But it's a nice feeling when you know you're being naughty ^_^ Hey, you only live once~!

Come to think of it, there was a father's name-calling trend back then. Started by the "creative" male students of course. Obviously, I was not spared by them T_T So I went on board and joined in the daddies-name-calling galore. Yeah, very silly and pathetic indeed. Even the teachers were baffled at our very "respectful" attitude towards each other *LoL*.

The picture posted in this article was found when I was browsing thru some people's blogs randomly. Kinda made my day and puts a smile on my face. Whatever that is in that pic is what I really wanted to shout at the lecturers who gave shitty ASSignments to me. But I think I'll keep it to myself and keep my sanity in tact.

Sometimes I wonder why are we forking out lots of ca$h just to torture our ownself when we can use the money to spend on liquors, casinos, whores and cars?! *ROFL* Just kidding. Thank goodness this is my final year :-D Hmm.. might go find my friends and curse more like there's no tomorrow, to start a brand new day.

LoL~ I'm beginning to love that pic more and more everytime I look at it. Curse, curse and awaaaaay~!
